Mariajose Urrea

Hola, I'm Mariajose Urrea,  a teacher of Spanish-as-a-second language with more than 17 years of experience teaching this beautiful language and the richness of my culture. I'm 39 years old and live in Jocotenango, Guatemala with my husband Mario Mazariegos and my two sons, 14 year old Santiago and 11 year old Martin. 

  
In addition to teaching Spanish I work in my family business.  Together we run a small restaurant serving artesanal hamburgers. We are passionate about this project and are using it to teach our sons the value of work, responsibility and commitment for what we do.   
 

I studied psychology, a subject that has helped me to understand my students better and to offer more sociable, empathetic and motivational classes I enjoy supporting people in their personal and academic growth, helping them confidently reach their goals.
 

I consider myself a positive and perseverent person. I firmly believe there is always a new way to achieve the things we value. Being a Spanish teacher is one of my most cherished accomplishments. I love my native language and my culture, and the opportunity to share them with people from around the world through a teaching method personalized and adapted to each student.
 

In my free time, I enjoy reading, and above all, spending time with my family. We have many dreams to complete together. One is to grow our restaurant, open more locations, and travel the world. Travel inspires us, and personally I would love to share Spanish with more people and continue learning about every known culture.
 

To study Spanish is to open the door to new friendships, cultures and opportunities; it's to discover the warm spirit and passion of the Hispanic world.
 

My virtual classes are one-hour sessions using Google Meet and/or other common platforms. I also teach face-to-face classes if you´re visiting the Antigua, Guatemala area. We can arrange classes to meet your schedule. I look forward to working with you.

Terms and Conditions: You and your instructor will agree on the payment method and terms (duration of class, schedule, frequency, etc). If you choose to prepay for a package of classes, you must complete all prepaid sessions within three (3) months from the date of the last class in which you participated. That is if during the period of your prepaid classes there is a three (3) month or longer pause in instuction, you will lose the right to continue with your prepaid package of classes-- unless you and your instructor had previously agreed in writing to an extended pause in instruction. Communication with your instructor is essential!
