Cari has studied Spanish in high school and minored in Spanish in college and has always appreciated the language, both functionally and for its beauty.
In her job as a speech-language pathologist in an area with a large population of Spanish-speakers, she "often encounter[s] children who are Spanish-speakers and are learning English as a second language or whose parents speak only Spanish."
While she hasn't yet traveled to a Spanish-speaking country, she has plans to in the near future. She says, "Knowing Spanish will be invaluable for enriching my experience in the culture and communicating throughout the trip."
“Esperanza” (hope) is Cari's favorite word in Spanish. She says that it's "a beautiful word [with] a beautiful meaning. Also, my high school Spanish teacher gave me that as my 'Spanish' name for the school year."
Cari chose an independent Spanish teacher because she "love[s] the idea of the money going directly towards the teacher who is putting in the time and the hard work, with no 'middle man' taking a cut of the payment."
Join Cari and begin your own Spanish language journey by contacting one of the independent Spanish teachers below.
We are a nonprofit organization helping independent Spanish teachers in Guatemala. We are NOT a Spanish language school. The independent Spanish language teachers listed here offer you high-quality, low-cost Spanish classes. One hundred percent (100%) of the money you pay for classes goes directly to the teachers.
The Network of Independent Spanish Teachers, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of female independent Spanish teachers in Antigua, Guatemala.
The $12 (USD) per hour price point was set after we researched the prices of the better Spanish schools and academies in Antigua. Most charge $15 to $18 per hour of instruction while paying their instructors only $2.50 to $4 per hour. One hundred percent of what you pay with our nonprofit organization goes directly to the teacher. Furthermore, the teachers pay nothing to participate in our organization.
Can you find cheaper Spanish instruction? Yes, but you need to ask yourself, "If I'm paying $10 per hour (or less) for Spanish instruction, how little is my teacher earning?"
Our mission is to help female independent Spanish teachers earn a dignified, living wage. Be part of the solution of improving the lives of these hard-working women and learn the valuable and enriching skill of speaking Spanish!
Your time and money are valuable. If you're curious about taking a one-on-one Spanish class online, you can try a no-obligation, free 30-minute session with the independent teacher of your choice. Scroll down and click on the picture of one of the teachers to schedule your free trial class.
