Magnolia explains why she is learning Spanish and why she chose to study with The Network of Independent Spanish Teachers, Inc.: “I am learning Spanish because it is a beautiful language to hear and to increase my opportunities for connection. I have friends from South America and I want to be able to travel with them and to meet their families and friends. I also want to raise my future children in a bilingual home speaking both Spanish and English.”

“I chose to study with Rita, my lovely independent Spanish teacher, because it is important to me that everyone receives fair compensation for their work and is able to earn a wage that supports a comfortable lifestyle while maintaining reasonable working hours. I also love that I am able to receive 1:1 instruction–I feel I learn much faster this way and am able to have a more personalized learning experience than if in a group setting.”

The Network of Independent Spanish Teachers, Inc. is  a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of female independent Spanish teachers in Antigua, Guatemala.  

The $12 (USD) per hour price point was set after we researched the prices of the better Spanish schools and academies in Antigua. Most charge $15 to $18 per hour of instruction while paying their instructors only $2.50 to $4 per hour. One hundred percent of what you pay with our nonprofit organization goes directly to the teacher. Furthermore, the teachers pay nothing to participate in our organization.

Can you find cheaper Spanish instruction? Yes, but you need to ask yourself, "If I'm paying $10 per hour (or less) for Spanish instruction, how little is my teacher earning?"
